Go-Ahead / GTR (Govia Thameslink Railway)

THE BRIEF

Go-Ahead has extensive experience running complex and challenging rail operations, and currently runs two major rail franchises: GTR (Govia Thameslink Railway) and Southeastern. The business has a turnover of £3,481 billion and some 27,000 employees.

Following his successful delivery of Go-Ahead’s culture and values programme, both in the UK and Germany, Matt was approached by GTR’s Head of People Development to write and deliver a new ‘Inspiring Leadership’ programme. The leadership behaviour framework had been designed but a development programme was required to bring it alive for over 1000 leaders across the business.

WHAT WE DID

Starting with the end in mind Matt completed a series of diagnostic interventions including meeting with the senior leadership team and other key stakeholders around the business to clarify the real needs and expectations of the business. It became clear that the programme needed to provide tangible and sustained development to provide leaders development in what are quite challenging times for the operation.

  • The programme is set out over four one-day modules with each module focusing on one of GTR’s four leadership behaviours.
  • Each day consisted of working with 2 to 3 high impact leadership principles and concepts allowing the participants a brain friendly experience of facilitated learning and peer-to-peer coaching.
  • A primary focus for the learning is a transference back into the workplace with action planning and personal accountability a key theme.
