From May 2021 to June 2022, I did more team events than in the previous four years combined.
Do you know what the number one gripe was among the hundreds of teams (like yours) I worked with during that time?
Sh*t meetings.
Specifically, sh*t meets where they spend loads of time discussing things, finally coming to some sort of decision, only to find in the next meeting that no one stuck to the decision.
Does this sound familiar?
If this happens in your meetings, stop it now! You are better than allowing recurring low-value meetings to happen under your leadership.
A solid decision-making process is a simple way to radically improve your team meetings.
And you won’t believe the amount of time you will save yourself and your team.
Here’s my challenge to you.
In the next two weeks, create a list of decision-making tools you could use in your meetings.
If you don’t know many decision-making tools, there are plenty on Google.
It is essential that you have a range of tools that match the degree of commitment required to the decision.
If you’re deciding what restaurant to go to after a team event, anyone who cares can make the decision.
If you’re gaining total commitment to the team’s new vision, you need a more robust process.
Once you’ve got your decision-making toolkit, you must decide which tool you’re using BEFORE you start making the decision.
And by the way, ‘the boss decides’ is one decision-making tool, but it should be used sparingly – especially if you’re a control freak.
Great decision-making really is the number one antidote to sh*t meetings, and irradicating shit meetings is something I’m sure we can all get behind.
When the time is right, here are three ways I can help:
